Lien FAQs

What is a lien in a Bank account?

A lien is a hold placed by the Bank on your account balance to secure repayment of a debt or obligation. It prevents you from withdrawing the lien-marked amount until the issue is resolved, including auto-debits affecting your CIBIL score like EMI or credit card payments.

Can I withdraw money from an account with a lien?

You cannot withdraw the lien-marked amount. You can still access any balance above the lien amount, if available.

Why did the Bank put a lien in my account?

Common reasons include:

• Unpaid loan EMIs or credit card or statutory dues.

• Notice received from Law enforcement agency.

• Complaints reported on National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP).

• Transaction Dispute complaint received from NPCI or Peer Bank.

How can I remove a lien from my Bank account?

To remove a lien:

• Unpaid EMIs/credit card/dues: Clear the dues or fulfill the condition for which the lien was marked.

• Notice received from Law enforcement agency: Obtain revocation letter from the concerned authority.

• Complaint reported on NCRP: Seek revocation letter from the concerned authority.

• Compliant received from NPCI/Peer bank: Contact your Bank with proof and source of funds for the disputed transaction.

What are my contact points within the Bank?

You may call on customer care at 180010888 for information regarding the lien.
