Credit cards are a useful financial tool to have in your pocket. They give you quick and easy access to money when you need it. However, if you lose your card or become a victim of credit card scams, you should block your credit card to minimise the possibility of damage.

Common situations where you should ask your bank to block your credit card includes losing your card or noticing unauthorised transactions. If you suspect your card is not safe, you should block your credit card immediately and ask for a replacement.

IDFC FIRST Mobile Banking App


If you have the bank’s app on your phone, it may either guide you to block your card or do it for you in a few clicks. Ensure that you are using the official bank app.

Net Banking portal


 While this is not available with all banks, you can login to IDFC FIRST Bank’s website and block your credit card.

SMS service


If your bank has an SMS service, you can block your credit card with a single SMS. To avail this facility at IDFC FIRST Bank, please type CCBLOCK <Space> <Last 4 digits of Credit Card number> and send it on 5676732

Branch visit


You can directly visit one of the bank branches, preferably the one closest to your home, and ask them to block your credit card. You may need to carry identification and account details with you unless you have your card.

It is better to be safe and quick when trying to block credit cards. So, ensure that you use the most hassle-free option available to you.

If you have an IDFC FIRST Bank credit card, you can call 1860 500 1111 from your registered mobile number and ask for your card to be blocked. You can also report suspicious activity on your credit card. You can block the credit card from the IDFC FIRST Bank mobile banking app. To use the website to block the card, you will need to have your internet banking ID and password handy.

If you have experienced credit card fraud or unauthorised transactions on your card, notify your bank about the same. They may ask you to make a formal complaint about the same with the nearest police station.

Apart from you blocking your credit card to be protected from fraudulent usage or scams, banks may also block your credit card without being prompted by you. It usually happens if they encounter suspicious activity like incorrect card details for transactions, unusual activity on your card, and the card being used at an unusual location.

Banks also block credit cards when they change their terms and conditions. Technical errors at the banks’ end may also get your card blocked.

How to Unblock your Credit Card?


If your card chosen to block your credit card temporarily, you can unblock the same via mobile banking, net banking or by calling the bank’s call center. However it is advisable if you have experienced any fraud or lost your card, it is advisable to block the card permanently and ask for a replacement.
