Swachh Worli Koliwada Program
IDFC FIRST Bank in partnership with Stree Mukti Sanghatana and Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai(MCGM) is working on project 'Swachh Worli Koliwada' with an aim to clean the Worli koliwada community, create awareness and bring about behavior change around solid waste management practices and segregation at source through a participatory process.
The aim of this program is to build a zero waste neighborhood that is equipped to manage solid waste they generate with a model where community participation will be a key at every stage, thereby ensuring sustainability of this program in the long run.
We have reached out to 50 schools and more than 550 community members as part of our awareness outreach session. We have also partnered with IIT-Bombay to design and create a solid waste data capture tool that will help community track their waste management habits. The aim is to gamify their experience and provide real time data to the community and incentivize them to want to segregate their waste.
This program is expected to touch lives of 35000 residents spread across 65 acres of Worli Koliwada community. We have collected 50594 Kgs of wet waste and processed 49696 Kgs into compost and installed an organic waste composter machine with a compost capacity of 1000 Kgs per day. Total dry waste collected and sent for recycling to MCGM is 13834 Kgs. To spread awareness and educate community members towards best practices in solid waste management, we regularly organize awareness sessions with community members and school students.
