Partial School Support

IDFC FIRST Bank in partnership with Biswa Gouri Charitable Trust supports special education for vulnerable groups of children with developmental disabilities from both urban and rural communities in Karnataka and Maharashtra. Under this partnership, we run a scholarship programme, life-skills programme and a rural capacity building programme.

The following programmes cater to students from urban areas in Bangalore:

Partial School Support Programme

Under this program, we provide support for special education to young adults on the autism spectrum. These students come from under-resourced families who are unable to afford the costs of intervention. Their parents work as tea stall owners or auto-rickshaw drivers and earn an annual income of less than ₹3 Lakhs. The program includes classes that cover speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy to cater to the specific needs of these students.

Life-skills programme

Under this program, we provide life-skills training to young adults with autism, focusing on digital training related to subjects like farming and gardening. The program includes activities such as composting, manuring, seed ball making, and coco planter making. The aim is to strengthen the social and life skills of youth with autism, which are often inaccessible or too costly for their families. By imparting these skills, we empower them to lead more independent and fulfilling lives in the long run.

OUR IMPACT

Our Scholarship Program has provided support for special education to 144 young adults on the Autism Spectrum so far. This year, we have extended end-to-end support to 32 young adults. Through our Life-skills program, we have provided training to 81 young adults on the autism spectrum, which includes digital training on farming and gardening. As part of our Ek Prayaas program, we have reached out to over 400 children from rural areas of West Bengal and Karnataka. This program not only focuses on the children but also aims to build the capacities of their caregivers, equipping them with the necessary tools to facilitate the growth and development of their child.
