Is your vehicle equipped with a FASTag?

FASTag is a revolutionary tool for effortless toll payments without the hassle of long queues. Moreover, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) mandated FASTags for private and commercial vehicles. So, yes, if you own a vehicle, it should be equipped with a FASTag.

While FASTag is now compulsory, each vehicle now needs a unique FASTag according to new guidelines, which should be registered with the NPCI’s National Electronic Toll Collection System (NETC).

This might leave you wondering if you have an updated FASTag. But if you don’t, worry not! You can update your FASTag to comply with the latest guidelines. Let’s understand how.

Why is updating your FASTag necessary?

Updating your FASTag is necessary in the following instances –

  1. If you have changed your vehicle
  2. If your mobile number has changed
  3. If your email ID has changed

An updated FASTag will help you with uninterrupted toll payments and compliance with the latest guidelines.

How to update your FASTag?

Here’s how you can update your FASTag registration online in different instances –

1. To register a new vehicle

If you have bought a new vehicle, you will have to close your existing FASTag and apply for a new one. This is because the FASTag is linked to the windscreen and can be linked to one vehicle only.

To close your existing FASTag and register for your new vehicle, follow these steps –

Closing existing FASTag registration

New FASTag registration

  1. Visit the online website or mobile app of the issuer
  2. Log into the portal using your credentials
  3. Select the FASTag section or customer service/service request portal
  4. Select the option to close your FASTag account
  5. Enter your FASTag ID and other necessary details, and confirm the FASTag closure request
  1. Visit the online website or mobile app of the issuer
  2. Enter your vehicle details and personal information
  3. Verify your details through a one-time password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number
  4. Upload the vehicle’s registration certificate (RC)

2. To update the mobile number

If your mobile number has changed, you can update it in your existing FASTag. The process for the same is as follows –

  1. Visit the online website or mobile app of the issuer
  2. Choose the ‘Services’ tab and then choose the option to update the mobile number
  3. Enter the new mobile number
  4. Verify the update with an OTP and submit

In some cases, you might receive a DigiLocker authentication to link your new mobile number to the FASTag. Complete the authentication to complete the update.

3. To update the email ID

Updating a new email ID in your FASTag account is quite simple. You just need to change the email address in the profile tab.

When registering or updating your FASTag, keep in mind that the new guidelines mandate uploading the following images against your FASTag from 31st January 2024 onwards –

  1. Copy of the latest RC
  2. Front image of the vehicle with the number plate clearly visible
  3. Side image of the vehicle that captures the image of the axles
  4. An image of your FASTag affixed to the windscreen

After the images are successfully verified, your FASTag will be updated and registered.
