Tips to Avoid Sim Swap Fraud

This happens when fraudsters gain customer's personal information through activities like

Phishing (fraudulent mail),Vishing (fraudulent call), Social Engineering, etc. By creating the customer's fake ID, they obtain a duplicate SIM card from mobile operator and deactivate customer's genuine SIM card. The duplicate SIM is then used by fraudsters for fraudulent transactions in the customers' (victims') account, without their knowledge.

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN TO PREVENT SIM SWAPPING

ON YOUR PHONE OR ONLINE

Do:

  1. Register for SMS and e-mail alerts to stay up to date with all your account transactions
  2. Check with your mobile operator if your mobile stops working for unknown reasons

Don’t:

  1. Ever disclose your Internet banking user ID, Password, ATM PIN etc. to anyone
  2. Put your phone number up on social media
  3. Respond to unknown calls asking for your account details or registered phone number
