Upgrade to a passphrase

A passphrase is simply a phrase or sentence that you use as your password instead of just a word or set of characters. IT experts recommend using passphrases as online offenders have developed advanced hacking tools to decode simplistic passwords.

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN WHILE CREATING A PASSPHRASE

PASSWORD / PASSPHRASE

Do:

  1. Use a phrase that is meaningful to you but can't be easily guessed
  2. Add special characters, numbers at relevant places
  3. Add spaces in between words to increase characters
  4. Make it long. The longer the phrase, the more difficult it is to break
  5. Try to have a phrase from your favorite song or your safety first favorite quotation to make it easily memorable
  6. Ensure that every account you have has a distinct passphrase

Don’t:

  1. Create a password that is common or popular
  2. Make it either extremely complicated or too simple
  3. Write it down on any paper
  4. Reuse an old password
