Women Entrepreneurs Program
IDFC FIRST Bank, in partnership with ETASHA Society, is enabling low-income, slum-dweller women in Delhi to set up and run their own micro-enterprises through a women entrepreneurs program.
As part of this program, the women form groups and share entrepreneurial roles to jointly own a business with collective decision-making. The women entrepreneurs program team extends support and helps them in developing skills, so they can take over and run their own enterprises independently. The curriculum is tailor-made for women residing in slums, with classes often being held at their homes.
The key activities of this women entrepreneurship program include creating awareness about entrepreneurship, mobilizing the women, training them in basic skills, enterprise management, enterprise formation, advanced technical-skills, and extending support to run the enterprise.
This unit was a part of the “Ask for Mask” project during COVID-19. A sum of Rs. 8 lakhs were distributed amongst 64 households making one lakh masks. We are also supporting a woman with a physical disability as one of our key entrepreneurs this year.
Since the beginning of this women entrepreneurs program, we have supported 341 women and six women-led micro-enterprises. These range from the manufacture of LED bulbs, spices, handmade soaps to fashion accessories, and catering services. Our focus has been on the cost of human resources, communications, branding, designing labels, and marketing collaterals, packaging etc. for select new enterprises.
For women who need financial support to expand their business, we offer interest-free grants as loans, repayable over a 15-month period. The women entrepreneurs program also supports women with disabilities.
